Opuntia 265
16 pages, Dale Speirs, Box 6830, Calgary, Alberta, CANADA, T2P 2E7. Available for $3 cash for a one-time sample copy, trade for your zine, or letter of comment.

I only found out through reading Dale's new issue that there was a big flood in Calgary back in June (20-21) that caused billions of dollars worth of damage. One river rose five metres above its usual height. Dale gives a full account of the flood and its aftermath.

There are comments on FAPA #303, including one fascinating, and somewhat disturbing, comment in reply to Voice of the Habu V15#2 and their comment about Big Brother at the shopping mall sending coupons for baby things to a teenage girl and thereby exposing her pregnancy to her parents. Dale adds his experience of parking stations and those red/green lights that let you know how many spaces are available. As Dale was walking through the parking station he saw a technician on a stepladder fiddling with one of these devices so stopped and asked him what it was. The technician showed him a tiny camera and said that recognition software recorded the license plate numbers. This information is not only used to figure out how many free spaces there are left, but is also sent to mall management who track their customers.

Next up, letters of comment then Zine Listings. The shortest one this issue is for Cherry Monocle (Spring 2013): "Brief collage zine."

Brendon : A Coming Of Age Story

Brendon by Greg Farrell Brendon p8-9

NOT FOR CHILDREN - 28 pages, 7.5" x 5", $3.00, by Greg Farrell, + + doctormobogo [at] gmail [dot] com
It was really great to receive this comic from Greg. Of course I remember him and his terrific Yo! Burbalino comics from a few years ago. Well, now he's being published by somebody called Pronto Comics, and his new comic looks real good. Nice glossy paper, very good print job, and a nice small easy to read size. Content-wise, this looks like the first issue of a series about the high school life of Brendon and his pal (can't find a name in here...) doing the regular kinds of stuff high school age boys do, like swapping Pez for porno magazines, faking poisoning in the school cafeteria, jerking each other off, that kind of stuff.
Greg has really jumped a couple of levels here. This is very good indeed. I can't wait for the second issue.
